Abusing Religious Associations for Political Gain in Shakespeare’s Richard III
This paper is my college Senior Thesis. We were tasked to write our paper relating to our emphasis as English Majors. As a Literature emphasis I had to write in reference to a piece of literature. I chose Shakespeare’s Richard III because when I studied it in my Shakespearean class a few semesters earlier, I was enthralled. I loved the black and white clarity of villain versus hero. I found the psychological nature of Richard Gloucester and his manipulation of religious beliefs very relevant for today’s world. Along with this I have been very involved in the religious argument of today’s world. I have personally experienced persecution and manipulation because of other’s perception of my religion. That inspired this paper and resulted in a high rating from my professor. We were tasked to write the paper along with creating a 30-minute oral presentation with slides to support it.
