New Criticism Demonstration Paper
“Countess P-’s Advice to New Girls” through a New Critical Lens
This was a demonstrative paper to highlight the skills and techniques of studying literature through a New Critical lens. New Critical theorists believed that a work should speak for itself and that there should never be a time where one needs to reference the author to find meaning or understanding of the work. They believe that everything you need to understand a piece of literature’s meaning, should be within the text itself and that it shouldn’t require any outside information. This paper was an assignment for a Literary Theory class to demonstrate those very concepts. This is a paper on a work of literature selected by my professor that we had to analyze within the specifics of New Criticism.
